Sex. It popped into her head again.

Actually she couldn’t stop thinking about it.

For some crazy reason, Mason asked her if she was a virgin. Oh. My. God. So so far from a virgin. How he assumed she was some kind of innocent she had no idea. How would he feel if he knew the truth? Her stomach twisted into a knot.

She screwed more guys than she remembered. In just about every imaginable place except a bed. And not one.
Not one
. Made her feel a thing.

Lost in her thoughts, she almost didn’t hear Mason return to the bedroom. A shiver worked down her spine as he crossed the room to her. She didn’t have to turn and see him to feel his presence. The man knew how to dominate a space, filling it with palpable energy that buzzed across her skin.

God, never in her life had she anticipated a man’s touch. One incident in a club was all it took for her to crave him. Now she belonged to him for thirty days.

“I didn’t expect you to be awake,” he said.

“Couldn’t sleep.”

His arms wrapped around her middle and pulled her back against him. “Did you miss me?”

More than she’d ever admit.

“Heard voices and saw you with Tucker.” No point in pretending she didn’t know.

“He’s got a lot on his mind. It seems not being able to sleep is going around.”

“You two are close?”

Mason pressed his face into her neck for a moment and breathed deep. Her insides quivered.

“It’s complicated, baby. We’ve known each other a long time, so yeah, we talk.”

His hands were traveling across her skin, spreading heat in their wake. She'd thought about finding one of his shirts to put on and decided against it. That had been a good decision.

The ache between her thighs intensified the more he touched. Rebecca moaned and tried to turn in his arms.

He tightened his hold and kept her just as she was.

“You did miss me.” A hand drifted over her right breast, awakening her nerves as he pinched the sore nipple between two fingers.

“No.” She lied, arching into his hands.

“Try again, Miss Adams.” His mouth closed on her neck and gently sucked.

Mesmerized by his reflection, she watched his hands torment her breasts while the hard heat of his chest pressed to her back. The man made her want so badly, she didn’t know how to handle it.

“Yes,” she said, panting. “But I’m not supposed to.”

His hands froze. “Why the hell not? You’re mine now.”

Her stomach jolted.

Mine.

No. She had to keep her head clear. His words didn’t mean anything.

“Only by contract.”

His body stilled and she felt the air cool between them. He raised his head and met her gaze in the window. “Yes, by contract Miss Adams, is that a problem now?

His harsh words sliced through her, reminding her once again how ruthless he could be. She could be ruthless too.

“No, Sir. It is not a problem.” She straightened her spine and took a deep breath. So far, she wasn’t exactly living up to her end of the bargain. But damn him, he was making her needy and she didn’t know what to do about it.

“Spit it out, Rebecca. I can see whatever you have to say is eating at you. Let’s get it out in the open so we can move on.”

She frowned. She had a feeling she was going to regret this later when she ended up out of his apartment with nowhere to go.

“It’s about the sex. I don’t get it.” She dragged air into her lungs. “I mean what are you waiting for?”

He didn’t smile, but he suddenly looked amused. “That’s what you’re worried about? Babe, trust me, it’s going to happen when you’re ready. And you're ready when I decide. Quit worrying so much.”

“But that’s just it. You think I’m not ready because I’m inexperienced and that is not the case. At all. I am not what you think I am.”

“Don’t piss me off, Rebecca.” His voice dropped several octaves. “I said you could tell me what’s bothering you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll tolerate any disrespect. If you need me to demonstrate what I mean I’d be happy to take you back in the other room.”

Oh hell. Mason pissed off was a sight to behold. His broad body tensed and power emanated from him, wreaking havoc on her senses. Maybe she was losing her mind.

“I’m only trying to tell you the truth. You asked me if I was a virgin—”

“And you said no. That’s all I needed to know.”

She shook her head. “There’s more.”

“You’re not hearing what I’m saying. I don’t need to hear about other men. I don’t want to hear about other men.”

That didn’t stop her. She wanted to get it out before she chickened out. “There were dozens. Not just one or two—dozens. Maybe more. I lost count a long time ago.” She stared down at the floor afraid to look at him.

“Goddammit, Rebecca.”

She flinched. “I wasn’t a whore if that’s what you’re thinking. I was alone. And I didn’t understand.”

“Didn’t understand what?” he asked.

“Why I was frigid.”

“Excuse me?”

“It’s the only word I can think of to explain it. I’ve read books, talked to people. Sex is supposed to be fun and exciting. And feel really good. Hell, I wanted something like that so bad I was willing to do anything to find it. So I kept looking—over and over until finally I gave up.”

“Babe, you are not frigid by any means.”

“I think it might be different with you. But I won’t know for sure until we have sex.”

“No.”

She blinked at his overbearing tone. “No?”

“If you want me to be your latest experiment, my answer is no.”

“It’s not like that. Well, it kind of is. But now
you
don’t understand.”

“Then for hell’s sake enlighten me.”

“Sex has never felt good. I don’t mean it hurt or anything like that. I’m saying I felt nothing. Nothing ever. I thought something was wrong with me.”

“Listen up, Rebecca. I’m only going to say this once and then we’re never talking about this again. There is nothing wrong with you. I’ve already made you come three times and I will again before the sun comes up. You were fucking the wrong guys. Idiots who didn’t understand what a woman like you needs. I do.”

“That’s what I—”

“No. We’re not having sex to prove your point. You are not ready for my cock.”

It was her turn to be shocked. What the hell?

He turned her in his arms and placed both hands at the side of her face before tilting her head to look at him. “You’ve got a dark side and I can see it because I have one too. We’re not like everyone else. You need to be dominated and fucked and I need to be the one to give it to you.” He pressed his mouth to hers and licked at her lips. “I offer you all the pleasure you can handle, but babe, it’s going to be on my terms and you’ll get dick only after you’ve earned it.”

Holy shit.

A heat wave shot through her.

Earned it?

“Now get your ass in my bed so we can get some sleep.”

“But—”

“I’m more than happy to put a ball gag in your mouth, Miss Adams. Trust me when I say there’s nothing more we need to discuss on this subject. I got the message loud and clear. I’ll take care of it.”

Rebecca stared at him, biting her lip the whole time. Her body was now on fire and he wanted her to just get in bed and go to sleep?

When she didn’t move right away, he cocked his right brow at her and she scrambled toward the bed. Whatever his intentions, he looked intense and a little scary. And she didn’t want to spend the rest of her night gagged.

She no sooner hit the mattress and rolled on her side when she felt it dip behind her. He pulled her into his chest and snuggled her butt with his hips before settling his arm around her waist and his opposite hand between her legs.

Was he serious?

“Close your eyes and relax. Trust me,” he said.

She tried to do what he said, but she doubted sleep would come anytime soon. Until he started rubbing her stomach in a light circular pattern.

Then she was gone.

***

Mason listened to her breathing even out and deepen. Thank God she fell asleep so quickly because he wasn’t sure he could keep up the facade much longer.

She was killing him.

Her little revelation took him by surprise but in no way dampened his raging desire for her. Quite the opposite. Her proclamation she felt nothing during sex made the caveman inside roar with need. He was ready to pin her against the window and fuck them both mindless. He was losing control around her and he didn’t know what to make of it.

A lot of it had to do with simple lust, but not all. Plenty of women caught his attention in the past, but none brought out his protective instincts like she did. She was quite a puzzle. To not feel anything during sex seemed unusual and likely rooted in something else.

For now the simple rise and fall of her chest assured him she rested. There was peace in her world at the moment. He on the other hand had a steel-like erection to deal with. Not that he planned on doing anything about it right now. She might be testing his control, but that didn’t mean shit really. In the end, he’d get what he wanted, give her what she desperately needed and then they’d part ways as friends.

His heart beat a little faster. Once she left, he would break ties with Lewis Global and finally be free to pursue any life he chose. Her too. She’d need to find a Dom looking for more than a pass in the night.

His stomach clenched. The thought of her with someone else made him uneasy.

He reached out and ran his fingers through the curls fanned across her pillow. How could someone else appreciate her beauty like he did? How could he live with someone else touching her?

Frowning, Mason realized the dangerous territory his thoughts wandered. Leaving is what he did. She had every right to find someone new when he cut her loose. And yet, his stomach burned with fire at the thought of anyone else getting near her. She needed his protection.

Whatever demons kept her strung tight it was his job to uncover and eradicate them. Not some stranger.

You are a stranger.

Not for long. He toyed with one of her nipples until she moaned in her sleep. His cock strained in her direction. He had a plan to break down her walls until she gave him everything. Yes, he could give her pleasure, but nothing compared to giving her the freedom to let go and learn to trust in someone other than herself.

No, it wasn’t fair to break her down and let her go. But what else could he do? The wheels were already in motion and he had no intention of letting her down. He kept the promises he made and he promised to show her how to fly...

Chapter Nine

Gabe Michaels entered the cafe at the edge of the lake about as subtle as a bull facing down a red flag. A few customers sat at the scattered tables looking at him with their southern side-eye. They probably didn’t get a lot of men dressed in BDSM leathers out here. Not that he cared at the moment.

Since he received a worried text from Tori informing him Nina was in trouble, he’d dropped everything and got here as quickly as possible. In hindsight he probably could have taken a couple of minutes to change into street clothes.

“Whoa. Who ordered up the hot slice of man meat at the cafe?” Tori’s friend, Josie, greeted him with a smile he knew all too well. She came into Purgatory a few times with the girls and had taken to submissive play time like a natural. Too bad he was about to take her head off. There was a time and place and this wasn’t it.

“Easy, Gabe.” Tori rushed forward and grabbed his arm. He bit back a growl.

“Where’s Nina? What happened?”

“She’s in her office, but you can’t go back there looking like that. You’ll freak her out.”

“She’s seen me dressed like this many times. I hardly think its cause for a freak out.”

Tori shook her head. “I’m not talking about your clothes, you idiot. What you’re wearing across your face is what I’m concerned about.”

He frowned. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“She’s right, babycakes. If she gets one look at you looking like you’re ready to murder someone, she’s going to run for the hills.”

He looked between the two women and wondered if they or he had lost their minds. “I don’t have time for this. Tell me what happened so I can figure out how to fix it.”

“That’s just it. We have no idea what happened.” Tori nervously fiddled with the elegant chain collar Levi placed around her neck not long ago. “She’s been acting strange for days now. Up and then down. Pretty much ever since that craziness with Tucker’s mother. Now she’s drunk.”
