It was more emotion – and more words – from him than Jodi ever expected to see or hear, and she treasured it in her heart as if he had said the words she was going to say to him.
“Come to think of it, I have two smallish presents for you – neither is quite like this beautiful house of yours, though.”
“Ours,” he corrected, kissing her gently.
She blushed a bit and repeated, “Ours.”
Jodi put her hands up around his neck, which meant she had to stand on tiptoe and practically hang off him. “I know this isn’t something you necessarily want, but it’s something I want to give you, anyway.” She kissed him just as gently. “I love you – all of you, even the annoying, make me want to kill you parts. I just... love you.”
If he could have cried, he would have, and if he could have responded in kind, he would have. The impulses were there, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. Even the impulses were a helluva leap for him from a year ago, and who knew? Perhaps it would be something he could say to her in the future. She was making him grow and stretch in very good ways, and he did love her, very much, in his own way.

Since there was very little that he wanted that he hadn’t already gotten for himself, the only thing she could think to give him was more of herself, to show him more of what she had learned about him and what he liked, because she had been paying very close attention his own sighs and groans and hissed in breath in her own way while they were making love.
There was very little holding her in position – stretched out nude on her back on top of him like she was as he extended his long legs out in front of his big overstuffed chair and crossed them at the ankles – besides that only somewhat contracted left arm of his that exerted just the tiniest amount of pressure around her waist.

This time, as she intended, her pleasure was completely incidental to his pursuits, but then that idea turned her on, too, so even when he was at his most selfish and self indulgent with her, she still managed to get off.
This time, anyway.
And if not at any time in the future when he had her like this, she had absolutely no doubt that she’d get what was coming to her, because, in the end, he could make her do almost anything and be blissfully happy about it.
