In seconds two drinks were duly served on to two high quality paper coasters. She found he was incredibly charming very entertaining and very easy on the eye.
“So you like Floyd?” He enquired.
‘Like Floyd?’ She thought. ‘I’ve only had the best sex in my life to Floyd’
she laughed to herself.
“Yes I do, I have all their albums.”
“And the T- shirt,” he laughed. “I like them myself. I have some original artwork by Storm Thorgerson so I do like your T-shirt”. He smiled at her pointing to her T-shirt.
They had just finished their drinks when Lucy looked at her watch declaring she had to go.
Being the gentleman Christopher escorted her to the door that she had left him by two weeks earlier. As they made their way to the exit, he asked ‘
if he could drive her home.
Seeing there was no taxi in sight’.
Lucy declined pointing out that he ‘
had a drink
‘. He offered to wait with her until a taxi cab would arrive. He tried to make idle chit chat thinking all he really wanted to do was to kiss her again. Much to his
bad luck,
as he would call it, a black taxi cab arrived as if on cue.
He knew time was running out, she was getting ready to open the door of the taxi that he knew he’d miss his last opportunity if he didn’t take it.
He gently grabbed her hand as she reached for the handle, and spun her around into his arms. He pressed his lips to hers, lingering until she openly kissed him back.
At one point he had nearly felt her arms rise as to embrace him and he was left stunned when she turned and jumped into the Taxi saying;
“Goodnight Christopher Harper.” Then she was gone into the night.
He stood there shaking his head as his hand held the back of his neck mesmerized by her.
He still didn’t even know the
minx’s name
. Putting his hands in his pockets, he walked to his car got in and drove home thinking; ‘
Twice this ‘Cinderella’ had eluded him
.’
Chapter 11
‘Umbrella’
During that long month of Lucy’s and George’s break-up, Rebecca spent many nights with Lucy over the weeks. Jason was away on overseas business. Rebecca greatly admired Lucy’s attitude to life in every way. She seemed perfectly ok with ‘life without George’. In fact she was out constantly she even joked to Lucy that she felt like she had to book an appointment with her.
Yes Lucy looked and acted pretty much like she was over him and more power to her.
“How do you do it?” She asked.
“I keep myself busy. That’s how and its easier now that he seems to have got the message by not harassing me at work.”It had secretly killed her telling him to ‘
fuck off’
and knowing he desperately wanted to talk.
She knew she would have caved in if she had listened to him. She had to shut him out, block him out completely.
“I build a wall so that no one can hurt me. I shouldn’t have let him in, no one will hurt me like that again,” she continued. “I know I may sound hard, but I have to be ....maybe to convince myself,” she said under her breath and then trailed off deep in thought.
“Well either way Lucy, you look like you’re having a ball. Met anyone of interest yet?”
Lucy could only think of Christopher Harper since meeting him and those kisses, she nodded her head with a little knowing smile.
“So what happened? How did you meet him? Rebecca asked.
Lucy explained the Deb’s and Sarah had seen him at the gig. OMG how embarrassing the girls were actually pointing at him and how he had caught them. They had no shame those two. She roared laughing.
Their second chance meeting and how he cleverly had introduced himself, and that kiss; only he had kissed her twice. His second kiss just as she was getting into the taxi, but they were good kisses, she laughed.
Rebecca raised her glass, “To all the broken hearts you leave behind!”
“Up your La La...” Both girls raised their glasses and clinked the glasses together.
“Well out or in tonight?” said Lucy, “Have drinks up town or...what do you fancy?”
“In...if that’s ok with you.” Rebecca quickly replied.
“No worries,” Lucy laughed while dancing around the room to the music, glass still in hand without a drop spilled.
“I could do with a day of rest anyway. Even the good Lord had a day of rest,” she laughed before sliding over to Rebecca’s side on the huge couch.
“So how’s life with the lovely Jason?” she asked. “Has he moved in or you at his?” Lucy enquired peering over the rim of her glass directly at Rebecca.
“Goodness me, NO!” She exclaimed
.
“It’s far too soon for that. We’ve only really been seeing each other for a month now, it’s way too soon. But yes I have stayed at his a few nights. It’s nice to get away from there and his place is lovely.”
Rebecca went on to tell Lucy about Jason’s house. He had stayed in his family home; he had bought it for a steal for his parents. When they had moved abroad, he completely gutted the property and had it renovated to an open plan living space downstairs beautiful high polished wood floors with immense soft tan leather couches, and a lovely modern open plan kitchen with gigantic sliding patio doors.
There were three bedrooms, two bathrooms one of them belonging to the master suit. He was lucky enough to have off street parking it was a nightmare for parking around there.
Jason’s house was in a very nice part of West London. If he had sold up, he would have made a small fortune, but to him it was home; where he grew up.
She couldn’t believe how the month had flown by so quickly. Jason had been really wonderful. He was her knight in shining armor.
She also told her about the huge scuffle with both David and Jason.
“Oh men fighting over you,” Lucy laughed. “LOVE IT” she proclaimed raising her glass to Rebecca.
“From now on, treat them mean to keep them keen. They’re all Fuckers, lying Fuckers. I mean look at Mr. fucking De Vere, lying bastard. He could have told me at any time, but he didn’t. Why? I don’t know, but he didn’t. So everyone can blame him for my actions. I’m NOT getting hurt like that again. I mean...You know how special oral sex is? I NEVER EVER let anyone go there and that night I did and what happens? His BLOODY WIFE is watching at the door!” Lucy shuddered with the thought, the whole awful event replaying in her mind. “NO, NOT AGAIN,” she vowed to Rebecca. “A bloody married man,” she sighed.
Rebecca took her friends hand.
“Where was his wife all this time? “
“I don’t know,” Lucy replied. “I don’t understand, we were together most of the time. There was nothing to indicate he was.” She just didn’t understand it.
It had been a great night, it always was with Lucy. They had danced their feet off all night swearing allegiance to each other before singing their hearts out to ‘Rihanna’s Umbrella’ it must have been nearly four when they both staggered up the stairs retiring to bed.
As always with Lucy, the morning always came too soon. She was showered and out the door to work. Before she knew it, she was sitting on the tube dying of tiredness and a well-deserved hangover.
She felt absolutely awful, it was the only time she had felt like not going in. Thank God, it was a Friday.
Rebecca’s working day had dragged on hampered by the puking her guts out she’d done since arriving. It was only lunch time. the mere thought of food made her feel worse. Thank God, she could close her office door to stop the smells of her staff’s takeaways making her feel or be sick.
She really felt rough. Jason had already called to say he would pick her up from work. She loved him calling, which he often did several times a day cooing sweet nothing down the phone.
It was only when Judy, one of girls in her office asked ‘if she could ask a small favour, ‘
Her monthly friend had arrived; did she have any lady products
?’
It was then when Rebecca realized she was 1 week LATE for hers, the fear of God took over her.
“
OH NO,”
she cried inside. “
What am I going to do? HOW
? She was puzzled as they had
always
used condoms. “
Ohh SHIT! What am I going to do? How
?’ She thought. ‘
I was with David for seven years and not once.
“Ohh God,” she said aloud, she felt sick to her stomach her mind raced.
What would Jason say? Would he think she had tried to trap him
? Endless questions filled her mind,
she would get a test on the way home, maybe stop into the supermarket, yes supermarket. Ohh God, what a mess she had got herself into.
She tried to focus on the hour left at work but she couldn’t. She ran to the bathroom feeling like she was going to be sick again and she was several times.
She knew Jason was here, as she could hear all her girls in the office fussing over him. He was
so gorgeous
she thought.
He’s so nice and now this. This is going to make him run for the hills
.
She had no sooner thought it, when the hunky suited and booted Jason opened her office door greeting her with the biggest smile on his gorgeous face
“Did you miss me, beautiful? Are you ready to go?”
Rebecca nodded her head, frightened to make eye contact with him, while nervously gathering up her coat and bag.
Jason held the door open for her allowing her to walk out the door. He leaned into her as she passed him. She could feel him softly against her back.
“God, I want to kiss you real bad,” he whispered. “But I know it’s your office and all that so I’ll wait till we’re in the car.” He winked.
“No problem,” she answered. “I...I need to pick up some bits and bobs at the supermarket for tonight. Do you mind stopping?”
“No problem. I’ll go in for you, if you want? And I’ll cook if you like?” He offered. “Are you okay, you look a bit pale?”
“Errr no you’re all right. I’ll do it,” she snapped back. “Sorry, long day.” She apologized, hanging her head in shame
.
The journey wasn’t that long. She was thankful he was pre-occupied with a business call that had rang as soon as they had got into the vehicle. They had arrived at the supermarket. Jason parked the car and Rebecca got out and heading into the store making her way to the pharmacy leaving Jason talking on his call.
