“Wait,” Kieran said. “I’m not staying.”
“What?” she asked, her voice trembling.
“Misty wants to go home, she hasn’t seen her family for two years.”
“And then you’ll come back?” Leandra asked.
“To visit.” His mom looked as if she would cry, the same sadness in her face as when he had first arrived.
“I thought you would stay here and help with the Pride.”
“Mom.” The word sounded false on his tongue; he would have to get used to it. “Kane and Daniel can handle it. And now Darius is back. I think three men are enough. I want to go and farm, live a simple life.”
She sighed, a shudder passing through her, and then she smiled, and although he knew she was only putting on an act to make him feel better, he was grateful. “I just want you to be happy.”
“It’s not as if you can’t come and visit.”
“I will. Especially when you have cubs of your own.”
“Or foals,” he reminded her.
“Or foals.” She hugged him. “I’ll have to get used to that, won’t I?”
“I’m sure you will.”
“OK, let’s go and join everyone else.” She got up, and he took her hand and led her inside to the kitchen where his family were standing around laughing, and eating and drinking. It was a strange feeling, being surrounded by so many people he was related to, but who were complete strangers.
“You won’t leave without saying goodbye, will you?” Leandra asked.
“No, we plan to stay for a day or two, and then go to Misty’s herd.”
“I would like to get to know both of you while you’re here.” And then she looked over to where Darius was standing, all alone, staring at her. “Will you excuse me? I have a lot of catching up to do with Darius.”
“Of course.” He watched her go to Darius, and then the two of them slipped away, out of the kitchen door and into the sitting room.
“They look cosy,” Misty said, coming to him, and he slipped his arm around her waist and pulled her close. “I’m glad. I want her to be happy.”
“Isn’t she happy to have her boys back?” Misty asked, leaning into him, and the warmth of her body excited him.
“Yes. But I just told her we were leaving.”
She looked up and smiled at him. “I thought I’d be going to my family on my own. I didn’t think she’d let you leave.”
He looked down at her, his hand stroking her cheek, and then he kissed her lightly on her lips. “Are you kidding, I don’t intend to let you out of my sigh … or my bed, for the rest of our lives.”
“That’s the most sensible thing you’ve said all day.”
“Morning,” Misty said, stretching contentedly.
“Good morning,” Kieran said, slipping his hand over her swollen belly. “How are my two favourite people?” He kissed her back, his hands caressing her skin.
“Wonderful, thank you.” They had been back in Shifters Prime for four months, and had just moved into their own home, which Kieran, her brothers, and her father had helped build.
He kissed her shoulder. “I’m so pleased to hear it.”
She leaned back against him, feeling the length of his arousal pressing against her back. Another contented sigh escaped her. Making love in the morning was her most favourite way to start the day.
Moving her hips, she created friction between their bodies, and he groaned with desire. “I’m supposed to be helping your dad with the corn this morning.”
“He won’t miss you for a few minutes.”
He laughed against her back, his breath warm, kicking her arousal up a notch. “Only a few minutes? I thought you liked me to take my time.” His hand slid between her thighs, and stroked her clit, before slipping into her sex. “You’re already wet.”
“Maybe I dreamed of a man making love to me.”
“You mean you dreamed of me making love to you.”
“You might be my mate, but that doesn’t mean you are my dream man too.”
He chuckled. “I’m the only man who can please you.” His fingers delved deeper, and she wanted to tell him how right he was.
“Show me.”
He lifted her thigh, draping it over his, with her back to his chest, he had to change the angle of his body, and then he guided his cock into her, feeling her sharp intake of breath as he pushed into her sex. “Is that good?”
“A good start.”
He covered her breasts with his hands, fondling them, his fingers tweaking her nipples, and then he nipped her neck, and she bucked against him. “How about now?”
“Better,” she said.
He flexed his hips forward, burying himself deeper inside her, stretching her sex with each thrust. But he didn’t take her hard or rough; she knew he worried about the baby, and no matter how many times she reassured him, he was always concerned.
Kieran moved one hand back down between her thighs to rub against her clit, and she felt her orgasm rising. She covered his hand with her own, urging him on. “And I love you, Misty Blue.”
“So have you forgiven me for ruining your life?” she asked.
“What life?” he said and kissed her tenderly. “My life only really began when you walked into it.”
She sighed, and thought back to those crazy days, and he was right: it was as if it was another lifetime.
“I should get up.”
“You should. But I’m sure my dad won’t mind if you are late. Just tell him you are catering to the cravings of his pregnant daughter and he’ll understand.”
“No one argues with a pregnant lady,” he said, his hands caressing her swollen belly.
“That’s the most sensible thing you’ve said all day.”
