Ludwig Tessnow was tried, convicted, and finally executed in Griefswald Prison in 1904. Uhlenhuth's serum immediately became a vital tool in the forensic investigative process.

The eldest son became King Edward VIII, who in 1936 abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcée, Wallis Warfield Simpson. As the Duke of Windsor, he left England to live in permanent exile until his death in 1972. Edward's younger brother Albert, who in 1923 married Elizabeth Boyes-Lyon of Glamis (the little Lady Elizabeth Kate meets in Chapter Seven), succeeded Edward as King George VI, father of the present Queen Elizabeth II.
