“Thank you. You’re my favorite girl, Jenesis. I need you…I hope you know that” Did I know that? No, but I was so happy when he said that and the feeling I had inside was like nothing I had ever felt. Love…that’s what

I felt and it was written all over my face. “Now, get dressed before I eat you for brunch.” He stood up and tried fixing the broken leg on my bed.

“Promises, promises,” I mumbled. He grabbed my leg making me fall back on top of him. He grasped me by the waist.

“I promise you…I will taste you…soon,” he whispered in my ear. His beautiful blue-green eyes glimmered at me and I was hoping he would keep his promise. I was standing in front of him covering my breasts with my hands.

“I’ll call Dave.” I walked to the closet and picked out a pair of jeans and a red-laced top. I wanted to look sexy so he could imagine tasting me at brunch.

Michael stood fixing the broken leg on my bed while I called Dave.

“Dave, it’s Jenesis,” I said happily.

“Hey…what’s up?” His voice sounded tired.

“Would you like to go to brunch?”

“Who’s going?” he asked suspiciously.

“Michael and I,” I said hesitantly.

“No!” he barked.

“Dave, please,” I pleaded with him.

“No,” he whispered.

“Dave?” I insisted.

“Okay…but I’m inviting Margaret. You know her, the woman from the gallery.”

“Oh…that’s nice. I didn’t know you kept in touch with her,” I asked puzzled.

“She’s my girlfriend,” he laughed.

“Your girlfriend? Wow…news to me,” I said shocked.

“Yeah well, you’re so wrapped up in pretty boy you don’t know what’s going on with anyone else,” he said sarcastically.

“I’ll be ready in fifteen minutes and Dave…be nice to Michael.”

“No guarantees…I’m bringing Margaret to distract me,” he said sternly.

“Dave, please.” “I’ll think about it.”

“See you in a few.”

“Later.”

Michael fixed the leg of the bed and walked out of the bedroom…naked.

“Michael, what are you doing? Dave will be knocking on my door in a few minutes,” I said, shocked as his erection made me swallow hard. My goodness, I’ve never seen anything so big and

thick, and I haven’t seen many, but I wanted to run in the other direction. He could hurt someone with that.

“Sorry, I dirtied my pants,” he said as he walked over to me.

“Really? How?” I said smirking. “Doesn’t matter, I have a pair of sweatpants you could borrow and please, put that away before you hurt somebody.” I walked to the bedroom and opened the dresser draw. I felt him behind me, his erection throbbing against my ass. “Michael, take a step

back. I can’t with you.” I giggled. “Dave will be here with Margaret.” I turned around and stared at his pulsating manhood. I sneered and handed him the sweatpants. “Here.”

“Thanks, baby. Are you sure you want to eat out?” he said, smiling and eyeing his own erection, then slipping on his own pants.

“You invited me, remember? Let’s eat out.” I shook my head and chuckled inside.

“How about if I changed my mind, and eat you out…I want to taste you…remember?” I looked up at him and bit my bottom lip. Jesus, it’s all right there for me, but I’m walking away. I’m walking away.

“No, Michael, you can’t taste me. When we make this relationship official, then you can taste me. Now, cover up that throbbing beast and let’s go.” I turned around and walked out of the bedroom.

“Jenesis?” he said.

“Yes.” I could feel him walking behind me. He walked over and grabbed me from behind.

“I’m ready…let’s go.” He turned me around and kissed me on the lips. I was so close to call Dave and cancel and let Michael get his taste when we heard a knock at the door.

Michael answered.

“Hey.” Michael’s blue-green eyes turned dark as soon as he saw Dave.

“Is Jen there?” Dave asked sternly.

“Yes, Jenesis is here” he replied emphasizing my full name. “Jenesis, let’s go. Dave is here.”

“Hey Dave, where’s Margaret?” I asked as I grabbed Michael by the hand.

“She’s downstairs. Can we leave?” Dave tapped his fingers rhythmically on the panel of the door.

“Yeah sure.” I closed the door to my apartment and Michael and I walked hand in hand down the stairs. Dave walked slowly behind us.

“Margaret, hi.” I tapped Margaret on the shoulder as she stood by the entrance outside of the building.

“Jenesis, right?” She smiled at me then looked over my shoulder at Dave.

“Let’s go pretty lady.” He motioned to Margaret to grab his hand.

“Michael, why don’t you hail us a cab,” he said as if Michael was the doorman.

Michael took a deep breath before hailing a cab. I knew he wanted to push Dave right in front of the cab while it was driving up to us. I squeezed his hand and he glanced over at Dave.

“I’d like to push him right in front of that cab, but it’s driving too slowly, it won’t do any damage,” he whispered in my ear angrily.

“Be nice…stop that,” I said opening my eyes wide.

We got in the cab and Dave sat in the front. Michael’s relentless stares at

Dave made me feel so uncomfortable. Why don’t they get along? What happened in the gallery was in the past. Why can’t they both move on?  We arrived at the diner and sat by the window. Michael walked over to the buffet and I followed. Dave ordered Margaret a mimosa and he ordered

a black espresso just the way he liked it. He tapped on the table slow and rhythmically, reminding me that he’s thinking or contemplating, but I didn’t know what. He must have been planning a

way to slowly kill Michael. His face couldn’t hide his emotions and I wondered what was running through his mind. Michael and I sat down at the table after filling our plates with blueberry

pancakes, fruit, and turkey bacon. I sat next to Margaret and Michael moved his chair as far away from Dave as he could.

“I love that blouse, baby. Very sexy…Red…is your color.” He smirked.

“Thanks…I wore it just for you.” I blushed.

“You know exactly what to do to drive me crazy…and I love it” he whispered. “How are the pancakes?”

“De-lish…”

“Hmmm…like you.” He grinned a devilish grin that made me smile. He’s just so damn sexy. Dave interrupted us abruptly.

“So, Michael…how’s the law firm going?” Dave asked, in a surprisingly nice tone.

“It’s going good. We’re hiring a new lawyer,” Michael said as he sipped on his orange juice.

“Oh, really? Who?” Dave asked curiously.

“Mark Gleason from Gleason and Sons,” Michael said as he chewed on his turkey bacon.

“Mark Gleason? How can you offer him at job at your firm? He owns half of his father’s company and works for his father,” Dave said as he sat up in his chair placing his cup back on the table.

“He’s breaking free from his father. He wants to start his own business.”

“Really? Are you sure you didn’t convince him to betray his father?” Dave said harshly as he eyed Michael.

“What kind of a question is that? He wants to start a business of his own. I’m just showing him the ropes,” Michael said sarcastically.

“Showing him the ropes? His father can walk circles around you and your firm a hundred times. His law firm has been around way before yours.

What can you possibly teach him?” He snickered.

“Well for one, I can teach him to defend the criminals that you lock up so that they’re released in an hour. I can also help teach him to defend any scum of the earth… and, guess what? They’ll walk scot-free. You see, your department can’t find any evidence to put them away or keep them

behind bars. By the way, how’s the Tina Danielson case going? Pretty high profile case and you still haven’t found the killer, despite having your face splattered all over the news. How many cold

cases is that now, about two thousand?” Michael spit those words out at Dave and Dave went for the Jugular.

“Maybe more, but you must really have a hard time sleeping at night, defending the pieces of shit who kill innocent women, children, and babies.

How does it feel to know you’re defending the prick that killed Tina Danielson and fifteen plus other women? At least I’m not preying on little twenty one year olds like you. What’s the matter

Michael; you can’t find someone your own age to play with?” Dave glanced over at me. Then Michael glanced over at me and I interjected quickly. I waved at Dave.

“Dave, can you order me a mimosa?” Dave turned his head towards me and Michael threw down his fork.

“I’d like another, Dave, order two,” Margaret whispered as the tension at the table ignited. Dave waived for the waitress.

“Excuse me,” Michael said as he stood and walked away from the table. I got up to follow him as he walked quickly out of the diner.

“Michael, let’s go,” I said softly. I held his hand and his demeanor changed quickly.

“I can’t stand that fucker! Why do you put me in these situations?” he said letting go of my hand.

“I care about Dave…I love him, like a father. I just want us to be a family.” “Don’t ever say you love him to me again…ever…Do you understand me?” His eyes lit up indignantly, and you could

tell by his reaction that I hurt his feelings. He walked away from me and returned to the restaurant. I stood alone in the middle of the sidewalk not knowing what I did wrong. I did love them both

and I wanted us to be a family. I needed to get to the bottom of their hate for each other, but I didn’t know where to begin.  I walked back into the diner and sat next to Margaret. She handed

me the mimosa and I gulped it down in three gulps. Margaret giggled as she watched me swallow my drink.

“This isn’t going very well, is it? Jenesis,” Margaret whispered as she looked over at Dave and Michael.

“I guess not,” I whispered.

“I have some paper work to sift through. I’m going to head out to my office.” Michael stood up, glanced over at me, and motioned with his head for me to follow. I swallowed the last drop of the mimosa and stood up.

Dave grabbed my hand.

“I hope you’re not leaving, Jen. You don’t always have to follow his lead.” Dave held my hand as I gently released myself from his grip.

“I have to go, Dave. Margaret, it was nice seeing you again. I hope you can join us again when everyone can learn to get along like adults. I’m the youngest one here and the only one behaving

like a grown-up. Dave, I’ll talk to you soon.” Margaret smiled at me, stood up, and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled at Dave and patted him on the shoulder. “See you at work.”

I walked out with Michael, and we hailed a cab and got in.

“Michael, what’s eating you? What has Dave done to you that you’re so angry with him?”

“Jenesis, I just don’t like him. I know he feels the same way about me. Besides, I don’t like the way he speaks to me. Just because he’s a detective, he thinks he can grill everyone. I hate that about him. There isn’t an intelligent bone in his body. He’s an undercover thug, and I hate that

you’re so close to him…I fucking hate it.” He stared out of the window as he spoke, not giving me any eye contact. I held his hand and kissed his knuckles softly.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how much he irritated you. But, he’s not going away. I can’t do that to him.”

“I understand, but let’s try to avoid him when I’m around. I don’t have to like him, and I sure as hell don’t have to hang out with him. He’s disrespectful, and I’m not taking his shit.”

“Michael, that’s silly,” I said, trying to soften the blow.

“I’m serious Jenesis, I don’t want to be around him. I’m going to knock him the fuck out! I really want to hurt him.” My laughter turned into silence as his eyes grew dark and cold. He wasn’t kidding, and I was stunned.

“Let’s change the conversation. I’m tired. Let’s go to my place, and we’ll rest, rent a movie or something. We can talk about this some other time.” I squeezed his hand tightly then shifted my body to kiss him gently on the cheek.

We arrived at my apartment, and Michael and I rented a movie on demand. We sat on the couch wrapped in my throw blanket. I placed my head on his shoulder, and he kissed my forehead

tenderly. I wanted to tell him how much I loved him, but I was afraid he wouldn’t believe me, so I stayed quiet. Before I knew it, I was out like a light snuggled in his warmth.

The next morning we awoke in each other’s arms. Michael was staring at me, and his eyes were more blue than green in the early morning hours…they were shockingly beautiful, and I immediately blushed. He kept a steady gaze, studying my face, waiting for me to say something,

but I didn’t. I noticed we were lying on my bed, not the couch. We both were fully clothed, so I knew nothing happened.
