Heath chuckled lowly.

“Come on, come on!” Braydon appeared next to us, bouncing on his feet and gesturing toward the dance floor. “Come on!” He could barely contain himself, shooting away into the crowd again.

I groaned. “If we were animals, Braydon would be like a squirrel.”

“Agreed, he does think about his nuts a lot,” Heath countered and I giggled.

There was only one thing missing from what seemed like perfection. “I wish they could be here,” I told Heath, pulling back to look him in the eye.

He knew exactly who I meant, and his face softened.

Layla, Andre, Coop, Lee, and Phee were living in the new house as of four weeks ago. They were back at school, they were learning and developing and embracing the new opportunities that were being offered. I saw them a couple times a week, and they often came out with us when we went to parties or to just hang out with friends.

I’d gone from the girl with two parents who didn’t care for her, fighting to survive, to the girl with more family than she could count and living life to its fullest.

Heath kissed me briefly before lifting me off his lap and directing me toward the stage.

“Haven’t we danced enough already?” I groaned as he weaved us between dancing, twerking and grinding students. The music that was playing came to an end, and that’s when I heard it.

The guitar.

I looked up and saw Layla standing on the stage in front of the DJ booth with a microphone in front of her, smiling back at me as she strummed her guitar.

My eyes brightened as she started singing,
‘Wild Things’
by Alessia Cara. I began to laugh.

It was a song about being who you are, and for the people who feel like they don’t have a place to fit in, coming together and making a place for themselves. It represented us and who we were and what we had overcome to find our place in the world. We wouldn’t give up on each other, and we would be stronger because of the people around us who lifted us up.

Heath wrapped his arms around me from behind, and we swayed as we listened to Layla’s soft voice fill the school gym. People stopped and watched, smiling and singing along. And I knew then that maybe I wasn’t the only one who was looking for a place to fit.

Everyone struggled sometimes. We all had to fight for our place in the world. It wasn’t always easy, but as long as you were reaching for something, that’s all that mattered.

My fight wasn’t over.

It was far from over.

I had my whole life ahead of me. And I knew that in the future there would be obstacles, but I wouldn’t let them stop me from fighting for what I wanted. I had dreams now, goals to achieve. I was done skating by in life, just being comfortable, content with just being alive.

Heath’s lips pressed against my neck, and I leaned into his embrace.

Life wasn’t about just being alive, existing day by day.

Life was about living.

And I was ready to live.

My name is Phoebe Rendon. Growing up as the only girl surrounded by the Sinful Souls MC community has never been easy. Outside of the club, I had no life because my brother and his two psycho best friends kept tabs on me. My only out was racing at Point Hellers, the largest and steepest drift mountain in Westbeach, California. Cars were my life, and eight years later, that hasn’t changed. Only now, I have the funds to support my habit.

My love life’s been rocky. All I’ve known of love is twisted biker men from other MC chapters. Until I met Ryder Oakley, the lead singer and rock God from Twisted Transistor. He showed me the world in two weeks. Then one night he up and left me, without so much as a note. Now, two years later, I’ve been assigned as a fashion assistant to go on tour with Alyx Munroe, pop princess and diva queen. Only my shitty boss Maree omitted to inform me that Alyx Munroe would also be touring with Twisted Transistor. Just when I thought I’d forgotten Ryder, he comes back into my life in full force, causing me to slowly lose traction of my feelings.

With my plans for building my own racing circuit underway, I finally have the footing to leave the fashion industry and concentrate on finalizing my circuit. Where we can showcase some of the best and hottest girl racers from around the world.

This empire is mine, but with power and money comes hate and destruction.
