MICHAEL

God, I wanted to spank her ass for such a smart fucking mouth. This month was going to be hell if she didn’t lose this prick soon. She said my name in that snotty tone that made me want to pin her ass to her desk and ride her into submission. It would teach her to talk to me like that.

“It’s Michael, Sarah. How many times do I have to say it? And it would be great for you to remember I’m the boss here and your ass should have some respect. Who were they from? No, never mind, they must be from your fiancé.” She looked down at her desk to hide the fact that she was rolling her eyes at me, brat. I waited for a chance to speak to her, to see her daily, and all I’d been getting was shit from her. Granted she was one hell of an assistant, but she couldn’t stand me, and it was starting to wear on me. I have wanted her since I saw her at her aunt’s party, and the feeling hadn’t gone away. I couldn’t even look at another woman, yet little ol’ Sarah here had a fiancé. Well, I hadn’t heard that it was official yet, but I distinctly remember the fuck talking about waiting for her to finish school to get engaged. I didn’t see a ring on her finger, so I assumed she didn’t say yes or the bastard was just trying to piss me off that day.

I stormed into my office and slammed the door. I wasn’t in the mood to even speak civilized to people when I thought about them together. She was the one I had been taking out my frustration on since her aunt left, and I knew that wasn’t helping my cause for shit, but hell if I could help it. I hadn’t had sex in almost two fucking years, and it wasn’t until six months ago that I actually started to care. I wanted to nail her the first time we met and the need hadn’t gotten any better.

My dick hurt every day until I rubbed one out. I wanted to go at her ass every time I saw her. She had a killer ass that called to me to squeeze and tap it hard as fuck. Hell, it called to every fucking man in the vicinity. I swear, I almost fired like eight fuckers this week. If I didn’t need their asses, they would have been out, no joke.

SARAH

Thank God he went back into his office. I wanted to launch the vase at his handsome, jackass self. Ever since we met, the man had created several reactions in me. Mostly a pissed off one, the other emotions I didn’t even want go into. I thought I had all my shit figured out until I met captain asshat. Now, I didn’t have a clue what I wanted in life.

Michael Vitale thought he was God’s gift to women and a complete know it all. He was one of those guys who had it all and yet it was never enough. He was a workaholic and a charmer with the ladies. I’d seen the way he made my aunt blush with a simple good morning or a cup of Dunkin coffee. He probably had about ten ladies lined up for him. He obviously wasn’t the committed type. I hadn’t seen the bimbo here since I started, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t together.

I stuck out my tongue and gave his door a glare, like it was him. The first time I met him, I wanted to punch him in the head and pull the bimbo on his arm by her hair and toss her out of my aunt’s house on her head.

Michael had been wonderfully charming, and sweet when my aunt was here. But the first day she was on her vacation, he turned into an absolute prick. I had three and a half long weeks left of working with the ogre, peering at the date marked on my calendar. I had a feeling time was going to go slow. How my aunt stayed was a mystery to me.

Chapter 5

SARAH

Another week had gone by and the tension between us had only gotten worse. He couldn’t complain about my work because I was an amazing assistant, but he still got on me about my personal life entering the work place. Well, only when it concerned Jason. If I talked to my aunt or Stacy, he didn’t have a problem.

Jason called me again, and Michael of course lost his shit per his usual. I hung up quickly, even though I hadn’t taken a break at all and it wasn’t unreasonable to take a brief call, but the ogre didn’t like it. The moment he went back into his office, I was flipping him off. My passive-aggressive attitude was only because I loved my aunt and didn’t want to get her in trouble by quitting.

Once I got home, I gave my aunt a call. “Aunt, I can’t wait until you come back,” I whined over the line. “I just had an argument with the boss because Jason called. What the hell? I know they allow personal calls here. The one lady with the four kids gets calls from the babysitter and her husband at least twice a day.” I’d been nothing but a model employee to the jackass ogre, but he acted like I was the queen of the slackers. Well, actually not all the time, only when I got a call or gift from Jason.

“Sweetheart, it has only been two weeks since I left. He couldn’t really be that bad. Can he?” she argues.

“Aunt, everything I do seems to piss him off. I spend hours after work working harder than I should, only for him to act like my work is just okay. He has been avoiding me often these last few days, deciding that I’m not needed at his meetings. And just this morning, he took his VP’s assistant to a meeting to take notes instead of me, even though I had nothing to do.”

“You need to just stick it out. It will be great for your résumé.” After we hung up, I took a shower, then headed off to bed. It was Friday night, and I could be out with Stacy, but nope, I choose to stay in. I was just too tired. I’d worked about sixty hours this week and mostly alone because he gave me an extra project.

I could swear he punished me for having a conversation with Chad, the resident software engineer. He sent me down while he was out of the office to get the specks from engineering and walked in on us while Chad asked me out to dinner. After that, all my projects were tedious and solo ones, the damn ogre.

MICHAEL

“Madeline, that girl is driving me crazy. Tell me your cruise is ending early.” I was pissed. It was going on the third week, and I hardly gotten anything done. The girl was in my thoughts all the time. And if that fuck of a boyfriend didn’t stop with the calls and gifts, I was going to go ape shit crazy.

“Michael, why don’t you just tell her you love her and get it over with? You’ve been talking about her since my party six months ago and yet here you are—still not together. I want to see both of you happy. I know that you have been going through a lot with the whole theft and your father’s injury, but you have her there.”

“She is still with that jackass and…she hates me,” I admitted in defeat.

“Sarah isn’t dating anyone right now,” Madeline laughed

“What?!” I shouted. I wasn’t trying to make my move because she had a boyfriend that she obviously wanted to be with. All this waiting for nothing…she was single.

“Damn, Michael, I would like to keep my hearing in my golden years. I thought you knew,” she said.

“How the fuck would I know, Madeline? He sends her gifts every other day and the fuck calls her so damn often,” I snarled.

“They broke up about three months ago. Maybe he is trying to get her back,” she offered.

“She just hates me then because she hasn’t said anything about them not being together. Not to mention, I came to her desk and she had her last day circled with a heart and smiley face.” When I’d seen that shit, I wanted to rip the calendar off her desk and let her have it. Just thinking about it pissed me off.

“No, I don’t think she does. You just have a tendency to piss her off. Normally, Sarah is very sweet. You seem to bring out the bad girl in her.” I heard her chuckle on the other end, and then I understood her innuendo. Sarah being a bad girl for me did have some merit. If I could only get her to like me long enough for me to seduce her.

“Fine, I need a game plan,” I conceded.

“Good luck, and maybe you should stop taking Gary’s assistant with you to meetings.”

“It was once, and that was because that bad girl of ours decided to wear the shortest skirt possible and a low cut blouse under her suit jacket. Do you think I was going to allow a whole room full of the all-single engineering male staff members to ogle her?”

“Try being nice, maybe that will work.”

“I’ll try.” I hung up, ready to strike on Monday. I was going to show her who was boss, in more ways than one.

Chapter 6

MICHAEL

“Mr. Vitale, there has been a fire in the testing department,” the head of security said as I answered his call. Fuck, this morning sucked balls. First, I got stuck in traffic because of a three car pile-up. Now, as I sat here waiting to move again, there was a fire in my building. I hoped it hadn’t spread and that Sarah wasn’t in the building when it happened.

“Is Sarah safe?” I asked.

“Yes, she is, sir,” he replied with a chuckle.

“I’m on my way.” I hung up after getting some details. According to security, the building had been evacuated and no one was hurt, but it looked like it was sabotage.

When I finally got to the office there was a crowd outside. I found Sarah speaking with the fire chief and my building manager, getting everything handled. I just stared at the way she carried herself, all power and confidence. She’d do well in business, if I didn’t already have plans for her. My little woman wasn’t going to be working, nope, she was going to be home caring for my babies. She’d have to get used to that idea. I didn’t care how that made me sound. I wanted my kids to have the best of everything and that included a wonderfully dedicated mother. Sarah was it for me.

“Chief Colburn, this is Mr. Vitale,” Sarah announced as I approach their group.

He shook my hand. “Hello sir. The fire had been contained to the office area on the second floor and no one was injured. There was no real damage done to the structure of the building, but your equipment and everything in that room was destroyed. The building is safe to enter, but we will need to have that room cordoned off for investigation purposes.” Fuck, I knew there was a need for an investigation. There was nothing in there that could’ve combusted like that. I was grateful that most of my staff that worked in there hadn’t arrived yet; it could have been much worse.

“Please do whatever you need to do. Thank you.” I turned to my staff and made an announcement. “You can all have the day off, unless, you were asked to stay by the arson investigators.” I saw smiles all around because they got the day off, but Sarah wasn’t that lucky. She’d have to spend the day working with me. I turned to her, gripped her forearm and pulled her to the side.  “Sarah, I’m sorry, but I’m going to need you to work longer this week. My schedule will need to be revised and meetings rescheduled. I have a feeling nothing that I have to do is going to happen on time this week. Thanks.” I gave her a weak apologetic smile. She nodded and gave me a look of pity, and I had to say that was a plus.

SARAH

I couldn’t believe what happened on Monday. How could someone be so cruel? That fire could’ve killed someone. The only loss was the equipment itself. Ever since Michael caught Marc Thomas, one of the top engineers who had hit a rough patch, selling his company’s secrets, he had decided to do a lot of the work himself and save everything just in case. He no longer trusted anyone, and I couldn’t fault him for that. It made a lot more sense why he worked so hard. I thought it had been the money, but it was more of a trust issue.

Since he was normally an ass, I assumed that he would be worse after the fire. However, he’d been really nice to me, despite his stress. We hadn’t fought all week. It was almost the end of the day on Friday, and he was in his last meeting. I’d be able to sneak out early.

“Sarah. I am glad I caught you before you left.” Damn it, he’d gotten out early.

“Yes, Michael?”

“Do you mind telling me why you failed to tell me that you and the jackass from the party broke up?” His expression and tone were demanding and all powerful, but I wasn’t going let him dig into my personal life just because he had issues.

“It’s none of your business, that’s why. You already were annoyed by the attention it brought.”

MICHAEL

“None of my business?” I wanted to have the right for it to be my business, but I had to get her to at least like me. Too bad, I’d let my anger get the best of me these past few weeks. I let the question go for the whole week because I needed her help, but now that we fixed everything from the fire, she was going to give me some answers. “It is my business if my assistant is practically being stalked by her ex. He could have been jealous enough to be the one to try and sabotage my shit.”

I pulled that out of my ass. I already knew who did it, and I had their asses fired for sneaking Thomas back into the building at night to fucking destroy my work. I was leaning over desk, eager to climb over it and kiss her stupid.

“Well, I am sorry, but after next week, it won’t be your problem. Goodnight.”

She grabbed her bag and walked straight out to the elevators.

SARAH

Damn did that man drive me insane! His eyes watch me like a hawk sending chills up my spine. I hated that I was so damn attracted to him. Yes, I admitted it. I wanted him, and I hated it. He was an arrogant ass who was sweet to others, generous to a fault, and a hard worker, but he was still an ass. A handsome, sexy ass.

I stomped my way to my car and drove home trying to calm myself down. Stacy and I had an appointment tomorrow for a massage, a day of fun, then a night at a new club downtown called Night. I smiled because it was going to be fun and just what I needed.
