“Mmmmm, I do like to drill ya…”

She moves her eyes to the top of her eye sockets as if her next comment will be found written on her forehead. “A screw driver?”

“Oh yeah, even more fitting, because you know I like to…”

She spits out a laugh, cutting me off, “A bat?”

“Hmmmm…” I think on that one. “Let’s start with…” I move my hand up, up and up, feeling every ounce of her silky smooth flesh until I find my resting place; the rest place. “…second base.”

This ignites a slow whimper as she tosses her head back, pressing it into the mattress. I watch her, trailing my hand down in search of new territories. Her eyes close and I suck in a breath before she opens them and looks back at me, meeting my gaze.

“I like second base,” she heaves out a deep breath before sucking back in another gulp of air as my hand moves over her waist and downward.

I smile, ready to tease her in all kinds of ways tonight; some involving my mouth in a whole new way. “What about third, how’s that base looking?”

She closes her eyes again, whining and gasping as my hand takes slow, sensual pulses. My whole body thunders on a wave of need and want.
I don’t know how long I can carry this on. I want her, now.

Leaning down, I crash my lips into hers, swiping my tongue into her mouth to taste her, to take her, to consume her. She complies with a needy whimper and a surprising amount of passion as she pulls me fully against her, completely clipping off my mission of getting her to home plate with my fingers alone. I slide down, pulling my hand to her side to gear up for what’s next. This pilot is ready to fire down the landing strip and take off for flight. My hand fumbles along the bed, searching for the condom package, about to slur profanities between our lips as our tongues tangle and pulse in a heated kiss.

My hand finally finds what I’m looking for. I clasp a package between my fingertips, bring it to my mouth and tear the corner off in one swift motion. Right as I lower both my hands to her sides to push myself up, she unexpectedly laughs.
That’s not always a good sign.
I look up fast, my eyes meeting her. The look that she has on her face is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. She looks happy, truly happy; she looks complete, content and unafraid of anything. Her eyes hold an enjoyment of life that I’ve never seen; peacefulness that she’s never gotten to experience. I slide back down, pulling both my hands up and around her head, still clutching the torn open condom wrapper; that can wait.

I don’t even smile while I’m looking at her, I just look; I stare, in wonder. I’m completely awestruck that I could screw up so greatly, telling the biggest ass I know something so sacred, yet, she would still find her way back to me. She fought her demons in a dangerous game of tug-of-war for years. We both held on tight, but in the end she was the one that was strong enough for the both of us. So I look at her…

I finally smile, because my heart is pounding so fiercely that it is felt in every muscle of my body, lifting, tugging and pulling my lips till they spread across my face.

“Well?” she says with a grin.

I don’t come back with some quick witted response; I don’t even care that the condom wrapper is open. I just nod my head.

Nonetheless, after a brief pause, I comply, wanting to feel her just as much even though this connection is way more than bats and hammers and screwdrivers and drills; this is time we are together. I feel it deep in my bones, throughout my body, in my mind and most of all in my heart.

Moving my hands down I position myself upright and secure the snug safety coat on before sliding back on top of her. She immediately lets out a large gasp, from the pressure of my body or maybe the thrill of the moment. Sucking in another breath, our eyes meet as I dip my head closer so I can speak.

“Hey, breathe,” I whisper across her lips, seconds away from feeling them.

She moves her mouth closer to mine, only a millimeter away until I taste her. “You mean breathe with me?”

I slowly…shake my head as I lock our bodies together with an exhilarating slow thrust that takes her breath away.

“That’s not what I meant at all,” I huff out as a shockwave of electricity shoots through me. “That’s never what I meant,” I say in a husky tone, pulsing my pelvis forward again at an unhurried pace.

She opens her eyes wide, her mouth gaped open as if it is ready for me to devour it. I thrust forward, gently, slowly as if she’s fragile, as if I want this to last all night, because I do.

Her eyes light up and she raises her head up just enough to place a soft, tender kiss against my lips, then she pulls back just a little. I bob my head forward to taste her again, eager, antsy, but she nudges back with that same sparkle in her eye.

“I love you, too Evan,”

My mouth twitches and begins to curve into an uncontrollable grin. Speechless and ate up with an extreme amount of pride, my whole body lets out a soothing sigh on her words and I breathe….

Damn, I love her too.

Book Four in The Breathe Series

Tristan’s story

Thank you to everyone who makes it possible for me to do this every single day; to write to my heart’s content and create stories that become a part of my heart, mind and soul…so that I am able to dream up character’s that feel more like family than a person living in a fictional land…to build plots and events that bring my imagination to life. I absolutely love being able to write.

Thank you to my two handsome sons, that put a smile on my face daily. I hope someday when you have a dream, you go for it, grab it and bring it to life. My advice to you both is don’t wait, don’t get discouraged if you don’t succeed at first, have faith, have confidence and most importantly don’t give up. You both ignite a desire within me to strive for more, to go for my dreams and make them happen, and that is what I did when I started this series.

Thank you to my editor, Jeremy. What would I do without you? Your insight, opinions and feedback on my books is always right on. My absolute favorite part of meeting with you is when we brainstorm, get on the same page and run with an awesome scene. Although for my next book, I fully plan to bring a rolled up newspaper for you to keep on hand…you know how I get. Be ready to knock some sense into me if I start over-analyzing, not thinking or losing faith in my writing.

Thank you to a fabulous cover designer, Daniela with DCP designs. Your work is beyond stunning and with each teaser, bookmark, rack card or cover that you create, I am truly amazed with their beauty. You deserve all the success in the world and I cannot wait to see what all my future covers will look like.

Thank you to K. Keeton Designs for the lovely photography that fits my characters perfectly. Dusty and Gabriela make a great Piper and Evan.

Thank you to Stacey with Champagne Formats. The end of this process is always my favorite…seeing the interior of my books match the beauty that was created for the cover is always something special and I look forward to it each and every time.

Thank you to a wonderful group of beta readers, proof readers and beta group. I could not do this without you. I count on each of you more than you know and I’m so grateful that you are willing to take time out of your busy lives to help bring my book to a close, so that readers can enjoy it. Thank you: Ashley Schoen, Brandi Ackman, Billy Wilson, Cori Wray, Deanna Richardson, Heather Lesch, Heather Cavanaugh, Jaclyn Keller, Jesica Schultz, Karrie Zschille, Lisa Icard, Tara Dameron and Zack Koeller. Each of you have helped so much to bring this book together.

A special thank you to Karrie Zschille for all the long hours, heart and preciseness that you put into helping with my books. Your faith in me, means more than you will ever know and I am so grateful to have found a friend like you through this journey.

Also another special thanks to Heather Cavanaugh for all the time and effort you put into promoting my books, advice on all the ins-and-outs that I have not yet figured out and for your creative eye in whipping up a quick teaser or banner when I need one. You have helped out so much and I look forward to meeting you at a book signing very soon I hope. You’ve become a great friend.

Thank you to Billy Wilson for all the promoting you’ve done to help me out, thank you to Cori Wray for quick advice and input when I run into a snag or get overly stressed, thank you to Deanna Richardson for all the quick trips next door to let me read a chapter or go over an edit with you and also thank you to Jesica Schultz and Brandi Ackman for the extra help with Beta.

Thank you to El Sol in Cape Girardeau for letting me take up your dining area for seven hours to proofread and finalize my book. You’re awesome.

Thank you to my mom and grandma for all of the love and support you’ve given me for my entire life. You’ve always encouraged my writing, telling me to go for it. If only I had listened to you twenty years ago (haha). This has been a rough year for our family and at times I didn’t think that I would get the book finished. We’ve been overcome with grief, but in the end, I think the best tribute to grandma was to put another piece of my work out into the world. I know that would have made her proud.

Thank you to all the readers that have eagerly anticipated Evan’s story and have contacted me or become avid readers of this series. I hope you love book three and I cannot wait to share the next one with you, and many more after that. All the feedback, reviews and personal messages that I receive only further my determination to continue writing book after book after book. I truly appreciate you all and am truly humbled when you say that you love my stories.

Most importantly, Thank you Lord for blessing me with the ability, heart and mindset to put my thoughts into words. When I was little and life seemed to weigh me down, I turned to writing as an outlet for someone that liked to bottle up her emotions. Through poetry, short stories and now novels, I am so grateful for this talent and gift that you have blessed me with.
