“Christ, Hannah, just put it out of its
misery already.” Reid peered over Hannah’s shoulder. The vampire was one of
the smallest he’d seen and he winced when she started to cry. “Since when the
fuck do leeches cry?”

“They don’t, Reid,” Hannah said. She
stared at the vampire lying on the ground. “What’s your name?”

“Oh my God! Rule number one, Hannah – we
don’t make friends with the fucking bloodsuckers,” Reid said. He pulled his
gun and froze when Mannie shouted.

“Stop!”

“What the hell, Mannie?” Reid asked
impatiently as Mannie staggered to his feet.

“Just wait. There’s something – she’s
different.”

Selena touched the marks on his neck. “Not
that different. She was feeding from you.”

“I know.” Mannie pushed her hand away as
Will shifted to his human form.

“Mannie, what the hell is going on?” He
asked.

“That’s what I’m trying to find out. Don’t
kill her yet,” Mannie said.

He dropped to his knees beside the fallen
vampire and winced before touching his head.

“I can’t feel my legs,” she whispered.

“Your spine is probably crushed,” Mannie
said.

More tears rolled down her cheeks and Will
flushed when she turned her gaze toward him.

“Christ, I am not going to feel bad for
injuring a leech,” he muttered to Hannah.

“What’s your name?” Mannie asked.

“Olivia. Please help me.”

“Why did you kill that leech?”

“She killed a leech?” Selena asked.
“You’re kidding.”

“I’m looking for a man named Jordan,”
Olivia said.

The others stared at each other in surprise
and she felt a trickle of hope. “Do – do you know him?”

“How do
you
know him?” The one
named Reid asked suspiciously.

“I – I met him earlier tonight,” Olivia
whispered. “Please, I must speak with him. Dr. Matton said he would help me.”

“Who the fuck is Dr. Matton?” Reid asked
Selena.

She shrugged before glancing at Will and
Hannah. “What do we do?”

“We take her to Jordan,” Mannie said.

“Mannie, she’s a leech. She fed from you
for God’s sake,” Will said. “This is probably some sort of trick. For all we
know, she could have a tracking device planted on her and if we take her to the
facility, she’ll lead the other leeches straight to us.”

“I don’t,” Olivia said. “I promise I
don’t. I – I’m different. Take me to Jordan - he’ll tell you.”

“Will,” Hannah began, “Maybe we should – “

“We can’t, Hannah,” Will interrupted. “You
know we can’t.”

“We’re taking her with us,” Mannie
snapped.

“I agree with Mannie,” Hannah said.

Will glanced at Reid. “Reid, help me talk
some sense into them for fuck’s sake.”

Reid shrugged. “Sorry, furface, I kind of
agree with them. Worse comes to worse, we can torture her for information if
Jordan doesn’t know who she is.”

Mannie climbed to his feet and Hannah
grabbed his arm when he bent to pick up the fallen vampire.

“Mannie, you can’t.”

“She can’t walk, Hannah. She’s paralyzed.”

“I know but you’re injured and you’ve lost
a lot of blood.”

“Because she fed from him!” Will said
loudly.

Hannah squeezed Mannie’s arm. “Will can
carry her.”

“Like hell I can!” Will snapped.

“Will, please,” Hannah said. “It’s going to
be dawn soon. We have to get moving.”

“This is a bad fucking idea,” Will muttered
before bending and picking up Olivia. He tossed her over his shoulder in a
fireman’s carry, ignoring her shriek of pain. “If she bites me in the goddamn
ass, I’ll kick
your
ass, Mannie.”
